Quote of the Day

"Our way of life has been influenced by
the way technology has developed.
In future, it seems to me, we ought to try to reverse this and so
develop our technology that it meets the needs of the sort of life we
wish to lead."

Introduction

Reshaping your HR Department to
take full advantage of technology
Human Resources departments are rapidly gaining recognition as the most
important department in the district. For many, the benefits of technology have
been a long time coming and, until recently, those benefits were routed to other
departments.
Because HR departments receive technology funding in small quantities, they’ve
tended to leap at every individual opportunity to implement new technology,
snapping up Document Management systems, Employee Screening solutions,
Substitute Management systems, Applicant-Tracking systems, etc., whenever they
can.
As expected, Districts immediately benefit from the new technology but without a
cohesive vision and implementation, these separate products and solutions do not
fulfill the true potential of a 21st century personnel department.

Chapter
2
|
You’re already in the 21st Century, here’s how to feel like it!
Positive change is a process of problem solving.
Managing change is a matter of transitioning from the problem state to the
resolved state.
|
l |
Problem Solving:
1)
Define the vision
2)
Review and Understand Existing Technology
3)
Plan the Project
4)
Implementation |
Some People suggest you begin by defining the
problem…. Visionaries start by defining the end result.

It’s easy to bog down in the quagmire of “what
the problems are”. To lead your department to success, start with the vision of
where you want to be.
Now is the time to entertain new possibilities
and wipe the slate clean of existing processes and procedures. Many of your
procedures and the paperwork you require were developed around the tools of an
earlier time. Lots of administrative paperwork duplication and approvals were
necessary “back then”.
The 21st Century personnel department is a
place of efficiency and effectiveness.
Our budgets are tight, our employees are stressed, demands keep
rising - the old ways must rapidly fade away and better processes must be put
into action immediately.
With today’s technology, much can be
automated. Documents and information can be stored on-line, and electronic
approvals can streamline your tasks. Re-thinking procedures and innovating new
processes provides a fresh, positive opportunity for you to streamline and
optimize workloads.
Even when complex negotiated contracts and
un-movable policies are in place you can still define workflows and procedures
around them. Now is the time for change - but not just any type of change
.... SMART Change.
